By BBN Staff: Belmopan Police have one man in custody in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Omar Barahona Jr., of Cotton Tree Village.

Senior Superintendent of Police Howell Gillett, said that person was detained on Tuesday, but cannot be named because he has not been formally charged. Gillett added that the man in custody is “known” to police.

Barahona was shot on Saturday night while attending a family gathering in honor of him landing a job in the United States, for which he was to leave on June 17. Both police and family members have said they believe Barahona was not the intended target of the shooting.

Barahona was shot seven times, while standing with  Alexander Brooks. Brooks, who also received multiple shots, survived the incident, but is not cooperating with investigators.
