Western Ballaz Receive Donation

Friday, May 8th 2015. Flora Pereira Reporting: The Western Ballaz Team members are very enthusiastic and optimistic as they approach the end of the basketball season. Last night, the players were called out for a normal day of practice by Coach Douglas Smith and were surprised with a brand new custom set of Jordan Brand Nike uniforms and tennis shoes.

The donation came from Mat Saunders and his group, the International Archaeology Project Foreign Academic Research (AFAR). AFAR consists of a host of young students led by Saunders who have been working in Belize since 2000 and frequently played basketball with Coach Douglas Smith at the Falcon Field in the early days before the NEBL.

Mat Saunders with the help of Douglas Smith and Jamal Crawford organized and planned the event last night and ensured that the players had a great evening of socializing and motivating each other for the upcoming games.

Saunders along with the board members also pledged their 100% support to the team.

Team Captain, Kurt Burgess, told Belize Media Group this morning  that team members were excited and appreciative of the gifts and that they are well motivated and ready for the game on Saturday.
