By BBN Staff:The only Junior College in Benque Viejo del Carmen, John Paul II Junior College (JPIIJC) awarded students that recently sat the National Latin Exam at a ceremony held on Thursday, May 4 .
For the second successive year, students at the Liberal Arts college took the prestigious examination: 60% scored magna cum laude or better, including two Silver Medal, maxima cum laude, awards.
JPIIJC is the first school in the history of Belize to administer the Latin exam.
The National Latin Exam is sponsored by the U.S-based American Classical League, which promotes the study of Latin, Greek, and the Classical tradition.
This year, 131,787 students from all fifty states and the District of Columbia, as well as ones from twenty-four nations—Australia to Zimbabwe—took the test, with Belize among several other Caribbean and Commonwealth countries.
The college is unique in offering Latin, as well as an Outdoor Leadership Adventure during which students camp, hike, and experience nature at Mountain Pine Ridge.
The college is currently accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year.
