By BBN Staff: Accused murderer, Jorge Vidal, 37, was granted bail on Friday before Justice Collin Williams in the Supreme Court. Vidal had been charged with the December 31, 2005 murder of Benque Viejo resident, Hortencio Contreras.

Attorney at law, Oscar Selgado, who was representing Vidal told the court that  his client had been acquitted of the charges against him but was rearrested in 2015.

According to him, no new evidence has surfaced against his client nor has a date for his trial been set. In essence, he argued that his client’s constitutional rights had been violated as he is allowed a fair trial within a reasonable time.

According to him, it would have been an injustice for his client to be kept in custody without any trial date. With those submissions, Justice Williams agreed and Vidal was able to meet bail.
