By Aaron Humes: Police moved proactively to guard and defuse a threat against a well-known school in Belize City yesterday.
Now they are seeking someone with information as to why the school was threatened, even if it was a possible prank or joke.
Following a post on social media announcing plans to plant a grenade inside Holy Redeemer Primary School’s North Front Street compound, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams directed police to guard the compound throughout the night and had an expert from the Belize Defense Force clear the building before allowing students in, around six-forty-five yesterday morning.
Police will keep a presence at the school through the end of classes in June.
Williams said the Department “takes nothing for granted” concerning any bomb threat, despite nearly all such threats in the past coming to naught.
“Every bomb threat that we receive, we are going to respond to it as if it is real, especially where it involves our children…a school is no place for a person to try to declare a bomb threat,” Williams warned.
Once they catch up with the person of interest, and based on the answers to their questions, he can be charged with causing public terror.
