PUP demand investigation into disturbing allegations against police officers

By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) issued a statement today demanding an investigation into allegations against police officers.

“In this time of COVID-19 when the country is under lockdown and citizens uncertain and fearful in the face of health, social and economic chaos, our security officers have been given almost unprecedented powers, which should be used in ensuring that citizens obey the law, with a view to ensure our protection. We are forced to trust that the Police will do their work with diligence and integrity,” the PUP said.

The party says that it joins Belizeans in expressing outrage at the viral video that shows two persons apparently engaged in nonconsensual sex.

The video was reportedly filmed by persons believed to be police officers who directed and instigated the persons.

The PUP says that such abuse will never be tolerated and the persons involved do not deserve to wear the uniform of those sworn to protect and serve citizens.

The PUP demands that an investigation be done and that they be removed from duty and from the Department immediately.

“We call on the Minister of National Security and the Commissioner of Police to act swiftly to root out these sick, deviant individuals and to determine if criminal charges can be filed against them. At a time when our nation needs a return to humanity and unity, there is no room for these actions. We expect immediate action,” the statement urged.
