Two months since tree topples Branch Mouth bridge, residents request repairs

Posted: Tuesday, May 19, 2020. 4:39 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Branch Mouth bridge (Hammock bridge) at Branch Mouth in San Ignacio was destroyed on March 19 when a fallen tree destroyed it.

Today, May 19, two months later, the bridge has still not yet been repaired.

BBN spoke to several residents of Santa Familia Village who told us that now that businesses have re-opened, workers need to commute to and from San Ignacio.

While most have the means to travel all around and go through Bullet Tree, many still rely on the closest crossing at Branch Mouth.

The residents now cross through the river to and from work and we met an elderly man who opted to take off his pants before entering the river then re-dressing at the other side of the river.

When the tree fell on March 19, Ministry of Works were on the scene assessing the damage.

But, the residents are once again calling on the authorities to repair the bridge to make the commute easier.
