Vice President Kamala Harris is in Guatemala to talk about migration with President Alejandro Giammattei

By Zoila Palma: U.S. Vice President (VP), Kamala Harris is in Guatemala and is scheduled to meet with Guatemalan President, Alejandro Giammattei today to discuss the root causes of migration to the US.

Harris is tasked with addressing issues related to migration and will also visit Mexico. On Tuesday, she is scheduled to meet with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

VP Harris is expected to discuss vaccine sharing and economic development in Guatemala.

VP Harris will also participate in a discussion with the Guatemalan community and civil society leaders, and meet with young innovators and entrepreneurs, including a number of female entrepreneurs.

Harris is focusing on creating better opportunities and living conditions in the region through economic aid so as to stem migration.

Harris announced plans to send $310 million to provide support for refugees and address food shortages.
