BREAKING: Second child of Sawatzky family dies after explosion and fire

By Aaron Humes: A neighbour of the Sawatzky family of Neuland, Corozal District, has confirmed that three-year-old Ana Sawatzky died of her injuries this morning at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City.

Ana and her entire family sustained burn injuries and younger sister Sara, ten months old, died at the scene.

Police report that mother Justina Sawatzky and daughter Helena were lighting the family’s kerosene lamp Tuesday night when it apparently exploded, causing a fire.

The other members of the family remain in treatment and police investigation continues.
