By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Don in the Atlantic.
As of this morning, Don was located some 910 miles west of the Azores.
Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.
Slight strengthening is possible during the next day or so, followed by little change in strength through Saturday.
Weather experts are also watching a tropical wave located a few hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system is currently interacting with the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
The combination of these features is producing an elongated area of showers and thunderstorms over the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
Environmental conditions could become more conducive for some development this weekend as the system moves westward across the central tropical Atlantic.
This system has a 20% chance of formation through the next 7 days.
