By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man picked up his fifth conviction for theft in court today for stealing a police auction bicycle worth $15 but he will spend 6 months in jail for the crime.

Marlon Wayne Blease, 57, is lucky because he could have been given up to a year in jail for the crime.

Faced with surveillance camera evidence showing him committing the crime, Blease changed his not guilty plea to guilty and begged the court to impose a fine instead of giving him jail time.

He has been on remand for the last two months since his arrest and he claims he has been put in isolation in jail and it is very rough.

However, because this is his fifth conviction for theft, the prosecution and Magistrate agreed that jail time was the only appropriate punishment for Blease.

His sentence will count effective from the day of his remand at prison and so he will only spend four more months in jail to complete his sentence.

The complainant reported to police that on July 6 she went to work but forgot the lock for her bicycle chain. She went inside her workplace and came out a short while later to find her bike was gone.

When she asked her boss to review security cameras, she saw it was stolen and police later identified Blease as the culprit.
