Armed robber fires weapon and makes off with $2,500 in shocking Benque Viejo hold-up

By Horace Palacio: An unsettling incident unfolded on Guerra Street in Benque Viejo last night. At around 8:20 p.m., an armed burglar made an audacious attempt, resulting in a gunshot being fired, and subsequently fled the scene with a significant amount of cash.

A 16-year-old resident was at home with her boyfriend when she heard an unfamiliar male voice yelling “good night” from outside. On investigating, she was confronted by a man she had seen a few times before in the area. The man menacingly revealed what appeared to be a firearm in his waistband and started advancing toward her. The young woman hurriedly tried to shut the door, leading to a brief altercation, during which a gunshot echoed in the house.

Both the teen and her mother, a 43-year-old businesswoman, took refuge by locking themselves in a room. When they felt it was safe to come out a minute later, they found the intruder had disappeared.

Adding to their distress, they discovered a fanny pack missing from their dining table. This pack contained $2,500 BZD, the proceeds from the sale of a motorcycle earlier that day in San Ignacio.

Police quickly arrived at the scene and initiated their investigation. A 9mm casing and slug were retrieved and cataloged as evidence. In their immediate search of the vicinity, a discarded black jacket was found, which might be crucial to identifying the suspect.

Several local residents have been interviewed, providing potentially helpful insights. Additionally, authorities are analyzing nearby surveillance footage to aid their investigation.

Police are urging anyone with further knowledge about the incident or the suspect to assist them. The investigation remains ongoing.
