United Nations highlights contributions of space science and tech to world on World Space Week

The week is set aside to celebrate the contributions of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition.

It is the largest annual space event in the world.

The week serves to inspire students, demonstrate visible public support for the space programme; educate the public about space activities; and foster international cooperation in space outreach and education.

The theme for World Space Week 2023, “Space and Entrepreneurship.”

The theme recognizes the growing significance of the commercial space industry in space, and the increasing opportunities for space entrepreneurship and new benefits of space developed by space entrepreneurs.

Last week, record-setting Latino NASA astronaut Frank Rubio and his crewmates returned to earth.

Rubio’s spaceflight is the longest single spaceflight by a U.S. astronaut, breaking the record previously held at 355 days by NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei.

NASA noted that during Rubio’s record-breaking mission, he spent many hours on scientific activities aboard the space station, conducting a variety of tasks ranging from plant research to physical sciences studies.
