Man held on suspicion of raping teenager after plying her with alcohol

By Aaron Humes: A man has been detained in Belize City pending investigation of a complaint of rape by a teenager on Friday.

According to the minor, she visited her boyfriend’s apartment off New Road, Belize City, on Thursday morning after 9 a.m.

The complaint alleges that he gave her two cups of an alcoholic beverage which she drank, causing her to lose consciousness.

Upon waking she realized she was not wearing her underwear and suspected she had had sexual intercourse, for which she said she gave no permission.

A medical examination subsequently confirmed that she had had intercourse, and the suspected perpetrator is in custody at this time. Police investigation continues.
