By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On November 24, 2023, the Belize City Council hosted the annual flag raising ceremony in acknowledgment of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Representatives from the Belize City Council included Councilor Natasha Pipersburgh, the Child Advisory Body and the Youth Shadow Council joined the National Women’s Commission and the Scouts Association of Belize for the ceremony.
Under this year’s local theme,” From Activism to Action, It Ends With Me,” the ceremony saw 16 symbolic flags raised in anticipation of ending violence in all its forms, particularly Gender-based violence.
“As a Council, we have and will continue to stand, march, vocalize, and advocate for the eradication of all forms of violence, particularly those that affect our most vulnerable, in anticipation of promoting gender equality, equity, and a world where women, men, boys and girls are empowered to be agents of change,” the Belize City asserted.
