Police officer attacked by drunken villagers in Red Bank

By Aaron Humes: Police officer Perfecto Tush of San Roman village was injured allegedly by drunken villagers on Thursday evening while on a visit to the store.

Responding fellow police officers found that around five p.m., four men were socializing in front of Maya Mountain Grocery, Red Bank, drinking. Half an hour later officer Tush arrived in his pickup truck to buy and one of the men was heard to remark that the officer “stare pa wi hard.”

Tush went to retrieve pepper spray from his vehicle and threatened to use it on the group. Two of them walked away but the others who stayed behind were sprayed and one of them took out a knife and began stabbing Tush. During the fight a companion of Tush tried to intervene and was stabbed in the back.

The attacker was treated at the Independence Polyclinic and thereafter detained. Tush and Sho were also treated and police investigations continue.
