By Horace Palacio: An alleged international con artist, who is accused of defrauding multiple luxury resorts in Belize out of more than $100,000, has been arrested by San Pedro Police. Christopher D Angelo Alvarado Marchena, 39, a Costa Rican national with multiple aliases, was detained on February 27th at Villa Abrazos Resort in San Pedro Town.

During the arrest, police discovered Marchena in possession of counterfeit $100 US bills, a Costa Rican passport, and a substance suspected to be cocaine. He is accused of using fake wire transfer confirmations to defraud the Itz’ana Resort in Placencia of over $13,500 USD. Villa Abrazos Resort also alleges Marchena owes them a substantial amount in unpaid charges.

Marchena faces charges of possession of counterfeit currency, possession of controlled drugs, and obtaining property by deception. This arrest highlights the San Pedro Police Department’s dedication to protecting Belize’s tourism industry. Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of Marchena’s fraudulent operations.
