Sensational trial against Anke Doehm in brutal death of 13-year-old Faye Lin Cannon proceeds

Posted: Monday, March 4, 2024. 3:34 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The trial against Anke Doehm, 63, for the death of her adopted daughter, Fay Lin Cannon, 13, who died in San Pedro in 2017 under suspicious circumstances, proceeded in the High Court of Belize last week.

Doehm is left to stand trial alone after her husband, the co-accused in the matter, committed suicide in Belize City in 2017. The crown is being represented by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Cheryl Lynn Vidal. Doehm is being represented by attorney and former High Court judge, Adolph Lucas. The case is being heard before a panel of nine jurors.

Doehm maintains her innocence in the matter. Vidal, during her submission, presented evidence to the court which showed 13-year-old Cannon was severely malnourished and under-developed for her age. Cannon’s sister also gave a virtual testimony to the court, in which she described seeing David Doehm stomping Cannon in the chest in front of Anke Doehm who only told David he could not do that before she left to go to Belize City.

Cannon was not taken to a doctor, probably because of the amount of bruises on her body, Vidal told the court. A doctor certified that Cannon died from compression if the chest, which compromised her heart and lungs. High Court Judge Derick Sylvester has deferred the summing up of the case until March 4.
