Dangriga man and woman busted with almost 100 pounds of weed; granted $8,000 bail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Dangriga man and woman are out on bail of $8,000 each after being busted with almost 100 pounds of marijuana.

Marshall Mejia, 37 and Winsy Ritchie, 25, appeared in court unrepresented and were eac h read a charge of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another. Both pleaded not guilty and were offered bail in the sum of $8,000 each plus two sureties of $4,000 each. Their bail comes with stringent conditions including checking in at the police station weekly and surrendering their travel documents. They are due back in court on May 20.

The pair were arrested on March 17 after Ladyville police, acting on information, set up a vehicular checkpoint and eventually came upon a vehicle matching the description they were looking for. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 67 parcels of marijuana weighing in at 43.82 kilograms or 96.6 pounds of weed.
