By Aaron Humes: Cabinet announced today that effective immediately, it had approved booster shots of COVID-19 vaccines for all healthcare workers, persons 60 years and older, and for persons with co-morbidities.
These are the third shots of the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines, the fourth shots of the Sinopharm vaccine, and second shots of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines to already vaccinated persons, not to be confused with second shots of the former two vaccines for persons who have already had their first dose. A schedule for the start of these boosters has not been announced.
Cabinet was also updated on the status of vaccinations and the number of vaccines available in Belize. As of 27th October 2021, 205,502 persons or 47.7 percent had received at least one dose of the vaccine and 177,455 or 41.2 percent have been fully vaccinated.
Cabinet continues to strongly urge the public to wear masks, maintain physical distance, wash hands regularly, and for those not fully vaccinated to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Vaccines save lives.
