Maya King Workers to stage protest

Posted: Tuesday, October 20, 2015. 2:18 pm CST.

Tuesday, October 20, 2015. BMG: More than a thousand people are being affected by Fyffes International, one of Europe’s largest fruit importers, cutting off ties with Maya King, one of the biggest banana farm in Belize.

Fyffes has severed all business ties with Maya King Farm after learning that the company has affiliations with John Zabaneh, who has been labeled with a Drug Kingpin Designation by the United States.

Although Zabaneh isn’t the owner of the Maya King anymore, he is still affiliated with the banana farm and because of that, operations were shut down and hundreds of jobs were lost. Since then, the farm has opened a kitchen to supply the workers with free lunches.
