Belize District Chinese businessmen charged over conch

By Aaron Humes: Chinese businessmen from Caye Caulker and Ladyville respectively were in court today accused of being found in possession of undersized market-cleaned conch.

38 year old Dong Sheng Zheng, proprietor and businessman of the Caribbean Chinese Restaurant located in Caye Caulker on January 7, 2016, is alleged to have had in his possession, 20 market clean conchs stored in his freezer.

Meanwhile, 36 year old Zi Jia Li, proprietor and businessman of Good Moon Restaurant located at Mile 10 on the Phillip Goldson Highway, on April 1, 2016, was found in possession of 22 undersized partially clean conch.

Zheng and Li pleaded not guilty to their charges, and the case was adjourned before Magistrate Deborah Rogers to June 23, 2016; at which time disclosure is to be given and a trial date set.

Both men were summoned to court, hence bail is not an issue.
