Belizean athletes win at regional bodybuilding championship

Sunday, December 7, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: This the four-man contingent of athletes from the Belize Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation and president Stanley Moody returned from El Salvador.

There the athletes had a successful participation in the Central American Bodybuilding Championship.

Rigo Vellos

Clayton Greenidge

Mr. Belize Rigo Vellos placed 2nd in the Light Heavyweight (80 to 85 kg) category ahead of Clayton Greenidge who also came second in the Masters.

Oyinkro Akpobodor

Oyinkro Akpobodor, also known as the African, won the Juvenile U-23 category and placed second in the Heavyweight (over 85 kg) category in only his second overall competition.

Belizean bodybuilders

All three athletes say they faced tough competition but won respect from their rivals.

Greenidge says he was told that Belize has good genetics and presentation and that Akpobodor is the future of Belizean bodybuilding.

The men are preparing for next year’s Central American and Caribbean Championship in Guatemala and BBBFF president Moody says there are other competitors being drafted in.

He says the Federation is working on developing facilities and providing needed supplements.
