By BBN Staff: In the Prime Minister’s budget speech last week, he reiterated government’s commitment to implement the third stage of the salary adjustment package for public servants and teachers.

The increase was due to be implemented in the last fiscal year but was deferred after Hurricane Earl caused severe damage to the country costing millions in damages.

PM Dean Barrow stated that the 3 percent increase is across the board for all public officers: police, BDF, Coast Guard, teachers and pensioners.

Barrow explained that this adjustment will require an additional $15 million in resources but that government is happy to empower its employees.

He further reiterated that over the last four years, public officers and teachers have received an increase of 25 percent in wages and salaries which has cost the government over $90 million.

Barrow, however, admitted that this adjustment will impose tremendous strain on government’s financial resources.
