By BBN Staff: Herbert Panton, attorney for Jafari and Wasani Castro, is insisting that the leaked information about their criminal charges were the work of a malicious police officer.
Panton, a former magistrate, explained that the latest evidence, a court book log which showed that Jafari Castro had three charges, was clearly a forgery as it lacked the URL which stated what precinct the charges originated from.
The leaked evidence said that Castro was allegedly charged with with failing to display a licensed sticker, failing to produce a driver’s license, and using obscene language; however, Panton argues that an officer drafted up the document on his own then leaked it to the media.
Panton further alleged that the incident is merely a political ploy to defame the name of the father of his clients, Transport Minister Edmond Castro.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, supported Panton’s claims earlier this week, saying that the report was inaccurate, but declined to make any clarifications on what those in inaccuracies were.
