Valley of Peace resident shot by police

BBN Staff: Cayo police are investigating an incident in which a Valley of Peace villager was shot following a search at his home.

Around 2:00 yesterday afternoon, police conducted an operation in Valley of Peace, Cayo and searched the home of  Kevin Avetar, 21.

When police arrived, Avetar reportedly ran into nearby bush trying to evade authorities so officers set chase after him.

When police caught up with him, a struggle ensued and Avetar allegedly tried to take away one of the officer’s gun.

During the struggle, the officer shot Avetar to his left leg.

He was taken to the Western Regional Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating.
