Belize represented at regional training against illegal trade

BBN Staff: Law enforcement officials from across the region participated in the 3rd annual Regional Training Against Illegal Trade and Customs Defraudation held in San Salvador between April 25 and 26, 2018.

Representing Belize was the Commander of Eastern Division, Howell Gillett.

The countries represented at the training were Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, USA, and Belize.

The officers were exposed to best practices in dealing with smuggling and counterfeit trademarks based on information from representatives of different brands affected by illegal trade.

They were also trained on tools to recognize contraband and counterfeit products and research techniques from real cases.

The training was sponsored by Crime Stoppers Belize.

The participating officers also networked to build working relationships to gather and share information and to work with the Inter-Institutional Commission against Contraband at the Regional level (Regional COICON).

A follow-up meeting is scheduled for the next quarter in Guatemala City.
