Main suspect in string of robberies detained

BBN Staff: Yesterday police detained a man who they allege is the ring leader of a gang of thieves who have been committing a string of robberies and home invasions for several weeks.

Belize city police had been actively investigating the series of home invasions on the north-side of Belize city and Ladyville village.

On several instances, the robbers were dressed as police and students.

The man was caught when he went to Fultec systems one morning to inquire about some services. Later in the afternoon, the security noticed the same man parked outside the business inside a Jeep.

The police were immediately called to the location and detained the man.

The Jeep is registered to a woman who lives in the same neighborhood as the suspect.

Both the owner of the vehicle and the suspect are being questioned by police.

Police say the suspect was in possession of several police and security uniforms.

Their names, however, cannot be released since they have not been formally charged for any crime as yet.
