By BBN Staff: Last year, the Government of Belize through the Directorate General for Foreign Trade (DGFT), embarked on creating a coherent and effective Trade Policy, following the development and approval of the National Trade Policy Framework (2016).

The Trade Policy, guided by this framework, is envisaged to stimulate and contribute to the growth of Belize’s trade domestically and internationally.

Th  Policy is built on four pillars i.e: institutional strengthening, supply capacity, market access, and trade facilitation.  The Policy further contextualizes entrepreneurship, higher living standards, efficient productive practices, trade governance and inclusiveness and ways to build and enhance beneficial trade relations.

The past months have been dedicated to an extensive countrywide stakeholder consultative process to solicit collective inputs that would inform the Policy.

Subsequently, a Draft National Trade Policy has been produced.

The next phase involves stakeholder review of this Policy before presentation to Government for adoption and finalization.

In preparation for these processes, the DGFT will be convening three special review meetings.

The first meeting will be held at the Belize Chamber of Commerce conference room in Belize City on August 8, 2018, starting at 9 a.m. The meeting will cater to persons from the northern districts of the country.

The second meeting will be at the Aguada Hotel in San Ignacio on August 9, 2018, starting at 9a.m.allowing for those persons in the western part of the country to attend.

The final meeting will be at the Pelican Beach Resort in Dangriga Town on August 14, 2018, starting at 9 a.m. for those from the southern parts of the country to attend.

The public is invited to attend any of these important meetings and be part of this significant national milestone.

Reservation for participation is required and can be made by contacting  Denise Swan Murillo at the DGFT on Tel: 822-2833 or email [email protected].
