Santander employee busted writing checks to himself for more than $219,000

By BBN Staff: An employee at the Santander Sugar Group has been accused of stealing from the company.

He is Flavio Tzalam, 29.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, the company reported that it conducted an audit for the period June 2015-June 2018.

During that audit, it was revealed that some cheques were unaccounted for.

Further investigations revealed that five checks totaling more than $219,000 had been made out and cashed by Tzalam.

As a result, the company reported the matter to police on August 2.

Shortly after Tzalam was charged with theft.

According to Myvett, he faces additional charges. Myvett revealed that the company has opted for legal redress after the accused proposed an alternative settlement.
