UDP women demand justice for referee who was attacked

Posted: Tuesday, August 14, 2018. 10:20 am CST.

BBN Staff: The women’s arm of the United Democratic Party (UDP) issued a release today expressing their outrage at the attack of referee Yuri Daniels who was attacked by a male football player over the weekend.

The group calls on the police and the relevant sports authorities to ensure that all actions committed against Daniels be dealt with urgently and that the perpetrator be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The incident occurred on Sunday when Daniels was officiating a game in Corozal.

Daniels reportedly issued a red card to Darnell Mossiah. Mossiah then allegedly punched Daniels in the face.

The group condemns Mossiah’s attack on Daniels citing that it is a ‘horrendous example to set for our young athletes, and one that we will not condone.’

Furthermore, the group says that as a country, we are celebrating women’s triumphs in sports so we need to remind our athletes that sports is a discipline and that under no circumstances will we tolerate such violence.

The group is also requesting that Mossiah be banned immediately from any and all level of sports in Belize.
