The theme for this year’s World Forest Day is, “Forests and Education” and a series of activities will be held from March 18th to the 21st in several locations in Belize to celebrate this important occasion.
This year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Environment, and Sustainable Development through the REDD+ Project and in collaboration with the University of Belize and the Forest Department will be having a symbolic tree planting ceremony on March 18th at the University of Belize Campus in Belmopan.
The event will commence at 9:00 am until midday and will include the participation of dignitaries who will be partaking in the symbolic tree planting.
As a part of this event, government departments, high schools, and conservation organizations will be also be having informational booths where they will be displaying and sharing information on their work as it relates to World Forest Day.
The keynote speaker for this event will be Omar Figueroa, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment, Sustainable Development, and Immigration.
The goal is to raise awareness on all types of forests and forest-related initiatives in Belize. It is also a strategy to stimulate local, national and international action on the important contribution of our forest to our sustainable development.
