NICH launches new Cultural Development Fund

Posted: Friday, June 14, 2019. 3:40 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) launched its new Cultural Development Fund, which gives grants to aid culture-based non-governmental organizations.

NICH held the official launch at the Museum of Belize, gathering several of the recipient organizations.

Sapna Budrhani, President of NICH, explained that the fund is available to organizations that are registered with NICH seeking technical assistance greater than $500. The program has four funding cycles with the first cycle ending on June 28 and the other three running the rest of the year and ending in 2020.

“The funding is coming mainly from NICH at this moment. We hope to ask private institutions partner with us with some of the projects that will come at a later date,” Budhrani said.

She added that she could not give a value on the amount of funding available, because it depends on the income that NICH receives.

The fund launched with a $10,000 grant given to the Peni Branch of the National Garifuna Council to assist with the cultural museum, the organization is building in Punta Gorda.
