Belizean student heads to Oxford University next week

By BBN Staff: A Belizean born teenager has been matriculated at the world-renowned Oxford University in England.

River Newbury was born in Santa Elena, Cayo and his family lived in Western Belize where he was home schooled using the Calvert US curriculum, and later the Wolsey Hall, Oxford’s curriculum.

River exceeded in both curriculum.

He took the following Advanced Levels (known as A Levels) and obtained grade A levels in all subjects:

Computer Science-A*

Maths -A*

Further maths -A*

Physics -A*

Economics -A*

Extended Project Qualification -A*

The University of Oxford is a world renowned collegiate research university in Oxford, England.

Oxford is considered the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world’s second-oldest university in continuous operation after the University of Bologna.

River’s parents told BBN that he was home-schooled in their jungle home in the foothills of the Maya Mountains.

When he returned to the United Kingdom, River was placed a year ahead of his age group.

River’s parents were excited to share with us that next week, River will start his education at Oxford University.

River is very proud of his Belizean heritage and says that he is looking forward to returning to Belize in the future.
