PUP pressures Commissioner for action in high-profile domestic abuse report

Posted: Wednesday, December 18, 2019. 4:29 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP), in a statement this evening, has put pressure on Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, to act decisively in addressing an alleged report of domestic abuse involving the son of Minister Godwin Hulse, Kenzle, and allegations of political interference.

“The PUP welcomed earlier statements by the Commissioner that he would focus on domestic violence as one of his areas of action to reduce crime,” the statement said while condemning act of violence and discrimination against women.

The party noted that the public, and in particular, Belmopan residents heard “the harrowing cries and pain of a mother who detailed…the physical assault and threats to her daughter and her one-year-old granddaughter.” The mother of the alleged victim publicly stated that the Minister’s son has shown a pattern of abusive behavior but operates above the law due to his high connections in government.

The incident allegedly took place inside a vehicle in Belmopan and pictures have flooded social media showing varying degrees of injuries reportedly inflicted upon the victim by the Minister’s son, who she shares a child with. There have been allegations that the initial police report made by the victim had gone missing.

Hulse was charged and made bail earlier today and is to report to court next February.
