By BBN Staff: Chairman of San Pablo village, Orange Walk, Javier Sabido was elected President of the National Association of Village Councils (NAVCO)
Sabido and his committee will work along with and oversee the District Association of Village Councils which includes the over 190 villages in Belize.
Among the many issues that need urgent attention, Sabido told BBN that as President, he will focus on lobbying for more autonomy for the village councils in matters of land distribution and the elections of water boards in their respective villages.
Sabido told us that most village councils requested that they are respected and recognized as duly elected village councils by being given the autonomy in these matters.
“ I will uphold NAVCO’s vision which is a sustainable human development of rural Belize and I am also prepared to sustain the viability of NAVCO and DAVCO…I am also ready to identify and access economic and social development resources for rural communities,” Sabido said.
In addition, Sabido says that the newly elected NAVCO will work together to promote good governance, enhance national development and seek or initiate research that will identify or determine key social and economic or other factors to aid in sustainable development.
