Two charged for broad daylight robbery in Burrell Boom

Posted: Tuesday, January 28, 2020. 10:10 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Brandon Escarpeta, 23, originally from San Ignacio Town, Cayo District but now residing in Ladyville, Belize District, and Joshua Robertson, 20, of Ladyville, Belize District, appeared today before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford and were arraigned on a charge of robbery.

Senior Magistrate Ford explained to them that she cannot consider offering them bail for 3 months because the offense was committed with a firearm. She remanded them until March 30 after taking a plea of not guilty.

Around 10 a.m. on January 23, Kindrose Staine, 36, reported to the police that she was walking on Central Avenue in Burrell Boom village, Belize District, when she saw a vehicle stop next to her. She said a man came out of the vehicle with a gun in his right hand. She said the man pointed the gun at her and said, “Gih me weh yu have.”

Staine handed over her purse, which contained Belize currency and Mexican pesos, and other items to a total value of $142. But the robbers did not get far as quick response by the police resulted in the apprehension of Escarpeta and Robertson.
