GOB and unions reach compromise on cost saving measures, Prime Minister will not amend regulations

By BBN Staff: The Public Service Union announced today that the joint union negotiating team and the Government of Belize (GOB) has reached a satisfactory agreement with respect to cost-cutting measures proposed by the Ministry of Finance.

The PSU said that it, along with the Belize National Teacher’s Union, and Association of Public Sector Senior Managers (APSSM) met with Prime Minister Dean Barrow and Financial Secretary Joseph Waight this morning to discuss the CSM.

“We can safely report that the Prime Minister’s threat to the amendment of the Belize Constitution (Public Service) Regulations, 2014 (PSR) to alter salaries, emoluments, and increments has been neutralized,” the PSU said.

The union added that GOB will be releasing the new details of the CSM in the days to come and expects that the Prime Minister will discuss it at tomorrow’s scheduled virtual press conference. The union pledged to share the details with its general membership once the union has received the signed copy of the amended CSM.
