Tensions rising at Port of Belize as stevedores gather for protest

Posted: Thursday, July 16, 2020. 12:36 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Stevedores are currently gathering in a protest at the Port of Belize Limited (PBL) Compound.

Police are on the scene monitoring the group, who are bearing signs that speak to issues relating to their collective bargaining agreement with the PBL.

Christian Workers Union (CWU) President, Evan Mose Hyde, has confirmed that 36 staff members from the PBL are being terminated, of which 29, of them are CWU members. Hyde went on to say that one of the members who is being terminated, is currently on maternity leave.

This is a developing story.
