By BBN Staff: The Republic of China (Taiwan) is celebrating it’s 109th National Day on October 10, and the Embassy of Taiwan in Belize is inviting Belizeans to join in on the celebration by participating in a Facebook picture competition.

Like many other live events in 2020, Taiwan’s National Day reception had to be canceled due to the ongoing pandemic, but as Taiwan continues to prove its resiliency to the world, the Taiwanese Embassy coined the competition to ensure that Belize can still be a part of the celebration.

To participate, simply like and follow the Embassy’s Facebook page (Taiwan in Belize), then post a picture of you and anything related to Taiwan (such as a member from the Taiwanese community in Belize, a dish of Taiwanese cuisine, or the Taiwanese national flag). Then, post your photo and messages below this article, tag three people, invite them to like, comment, and become a follower of the Taiwan in Belize page.

“If you get more than 10 likes on your comment, the first 109 participants will each get a Made-in-Taiwan electronic product (value of 60 BZD) as a souvenir from the Embassy. If you fulfill all the requirements and win the prize, the Embassy will contact you for an appointment to receive your gift with details to be announced on Oct. 16th,” the Embassy said.

On October 12, Belize and Taiwan will be marking 31 years of diplomatic relations. Taiwan has supported Belize in numerous infrastructure projects, economic development, and continues to offer annual scholarships for Belizeans to study in Taiwan, among various other things. Belize is one of only 15 remaining diplomatic allies for Taiwan, which includes 14 United Nations countries and the Holy See. Belize has taken every opportunity to express its support for Taiwan to the international community and persistently calls for the United Nations to allow Taiwan to participate in its meetings.
