“Land borders still closed,” says Government of Belize

Posted: Sunday, October 25, 2020. 12:53 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize (GOB) issued a notice today explaining that the land borders remain closed to travelers at this time, and are only facilitating the movement of Belizeans in or out of the country for specific purposes.

GOB’s update explained that it strongly advises against leaving the country unless it is a bonafide emergency. Belizeans that do wish to leave the country via either Benque Viejo del Carmen or Corozal need to send an e-mail to [email protected] and copied to [email protected]. Those who are leaving for health reasons also need to copy [email protected]. to their email request.

A request to leave the country must be accompanied by a copy of the biodata page of your passport; the purpose of travel (including a copy of a medical letter or student ID where applicable); and the intended date of travel.

“If you need a PCR test for your departure, send your name, address, telephone number, and copy of Social Security Card via email to [email protected]. Please note that swabbing is done every Wednesday with results on Thursday,” GOB said.

Those wishing to enter Belize via either Benque Viejo del Carmen or Corozal must also coordinate their entry by emailing [email protected] and include a copy of the bio-data page of their passport; expected date of entry; home address and telephone number; and evidence of payment for their hotel quarantine if they are not in possession of a PCR test taken 72 hours before entry.

“Arrivals through the Corozal Port of Entry may quarantine at the Hok’ol K’in Guesthouse in Corozal or Lamanai Landings Resort in Orange Walk. Arrivals via the Benque Viejo del Carmen Port of Entry can quarantine at the Clarissa’s Falls Resort,” GOB added. “Returning Belizeans may be allowed to home quarantine provided they arrive with a valid negative PCR SARS-CoV-2 test (NOT A RAPID TEST) taken within 72 hours prior to arrival.”

GOB also said that COVID-19 test results should include the name of the person, date, and PCR SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19 negative result signed by a certified medical laboratory or public health authority from the given country. Those seeking to enter by a land port of entry who do not have a 72-hour PCR test and cannot pay for hotel quarantine will be tested and accommodated at the D’Silva Quarantine Center until they receive a negative test result.

Coordinated returns will only be done from Monday to Friday between the hours of10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
