BEL: Faults knocked out power for most of Cayo District

Posted: Saturday, November 7, 2020. 11:09 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Belize Electricity Limited Chair, John Mencias, reported that two separate power failures on Friday knocked off power to most of the Cayo District as a result of the floods caused by Hurricane Eta.

A major power line failed Friday afternoon while power went out later after issues with the hydroelectric dams on the Macal River. Power has since been mostly restored.

BEL has been forced in some cases to disconnect certain affected areas, but is working to restore these.

Also, it continues to monitor flooding issues potentially moving down toward Belize City.
