Telemedia names new corporate board 

By Aaron Humes: As of Friday, December 4, former Senator Markhelm “Mark” Lizarraga is chairman of Belize Telemedia Limited, succeeding Nestor Vasquez. 

Lizarraga is joined on the Board by Directors Marconi Leal, Jr., Jermie Usher, Jose Urbina, Denise Courtenay, Michael Bowen and the returning Eric Eusey, with attorney Melissa Balderamos Mahler as Corporate Secretary. 

The previous BTL Board stood down after Vasquez’s retirement in October, which came on the heels of revelations about alleged misuses of the corporate credit card and a contract with Vasquez’s television concern, Tropical Vision Limited (Channel 7) for advertising to cover borrowing for expenses. Vasquez has reportedly had to pay back some of the money but it is not known as yet if he will be otherwise sanctioned, criminally or civilly. 

In a brief company statement, Telemedia welcomed its new bosses, stating, “the new board will provide quality leadership and strategic direction that will ensure Digi remains the leading innovative solutions provider, delivering long term value to our customers, shareholders, and staff. [We] look forward to continuing delivering on the company’s mission: “Be fast and efficient in providing communications solutions, enriching the quality of life of customers, keeping them connected anytime, anywhere.”
