By Zoila Palma: The Central American Integration System (SICA) has launched a regional contest design for an icon for Central America and the Dominican Republic.
This year, SICA commemorates the Bicentennial of the Independence of Central America, the 35 years of the Esquipulas Peace Accords and the 30 years of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
The General Secretariat of SICA with the support of the European Union, has developed a series of initiatives to link the population more with the integration process through art and culture.
“We have launched 3 competitions so that from Central America and the Dominican Republic, we can give the world all our artistic and cultural potential; all inspired by our culture, traditions, phrases, idioms, typical dish, national symbols,” SICA noted on their webpage.
Belizean Joaquin Leal’s design is a finalist in the contest for an icon for Central America and the Dominican Republic.
His design on the left-wing represents the first logo of the Esquipulas Peace Accords, and the one on the right represents the 35th Anniversary and the meaning of Esquipulas.
In the center is the representation of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
“I was overwhelmed at the fact that I was chosen to be the finalist from Belize. That also placed me in the 2nd and last phase. The last phase is that the organization posted the finalist’s logo on their social media page to gain the most likes. They wanted the people to be the final vote for who should be the winner. We have the permission to share it and gain likes to those who follow the page and like it,” Leal explained.
Leal is asking Belizeans to follow, like and share the page and the post.
“ I’m representing not only myself but the talent in Belize. So if everyone would please go and follow with a like on my design I would highly appreciate it,” Leal added.
The voting for the contest closes on March 15 at noon.
You can vote for Leal’s design by reacting ‘Like’ to the design.
