By Zoila Palma: Several countries in western Europe has temporarily suspended the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as a precautionary measure.

However, top medicine regulators have indicated that there is “ no indication” that the vaccine causes blood clots and that its lifesaving benefits outweigh the risk of any potential side effects, CNN reports.

As Europe faces a third wave of COVID-19, more than 12 countries halted the use of the vaccine raising questions among the population who were waiting to get the vaccine.

Experts have said that the cases of blood clotting are rare and no greater than numbers would be in the general population, while the vaccine has been proven to work in reducing Covid-19 cases.

Senior research fellow in global health at the University of Southampton said that pausing a vaccine campaign at this point would seem like a bad move.
