U.S. Centers for Disease Control says those fully vaccinated can go without mask indoors and outdoors

By Zoila Palma: Today, the United States Centers for Disease Control said that those that have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors with an exception for certain circumstances.

“If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic,” Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during a White House Covid-19 briefing.

Walensky said that it is an exciting and powerful moment and indicated that science supports the updated guidance.

Walensky cited 3 studies done in Israel and United States that show vaccines work.

The Israeli study showed that COVID-19 vaccine was 97% effective against symptomatic Covid-19 patients and 86% effective against asymptomatic infection in over 5,000 health care workers.

However, those who are immunocompromised should consult their doctor before throwing their masks away.

As for those who are not yet vaccinated, Walensky says that they remain at risk of mild or severe illness, of death, or spreading the disease to others.

“You should still mask and you should get vaccinated right away,” she stated.
