By Aaron Humes: Corozal North area representative Hugo Patt is seeking more details from his nephew, Ian Poot, on the circumstances that led to his detention on Thursday in the Ladyville area and subsequent charges of drug trafficking.
The deputy leader of the United Democratic Party said in a statement issued this evening that the freightliner truck detained on Thursday is registered jointly to him and brother Pedro Patt of Patchakan, Corozal District, and is used to haul sugar cane during the season and rented for hire for other uses when not being used for that purpose.
Patt says the vehicle was hired with Poot to haul dry goods to Belize City, but that is all he knows until he speaks to Ian.
Needless to say, the politician denounces drug trafficking in all its forms, insists he would never condone or participate in such distribution, and warns of legal action should anyone suggest otherwise.
