Special Branch senior officer accused of “disclosing very sensitive information”

By Aaron Humes: For at least a year, a video has been circulating showing a senior police officer working at Special Branch – the police’s intelligence unit – allegedly discussing with a gang affiliate sensitive information about a criminal informant – the kind that would place his life in grave danger.

That officer is now on administrative leave according to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, who told Channel 7 News there is an internal investigation underway to ascertain if in fact there was a breach and the extent of that breach and how to proceed from there.

The officer in question (Williams called his last name which we will not repeat) is a close friend, but Williams insists that will not taint the investigation.

The matter will go before an impartial disciplinary board which can recommend up to termination, but the officer cannot be forced to resign, the Commissioner said.
