Belize weather: Heat alert today gives way to increased showers tomorrow

Posted: Wednesday, May 19, 2021. 8:59 am CST.

The National Meteorological Service says it will be hot today, but expect a cool-down over the coming days.

Skies will be sunny with cloudy spells today and cloudy at times tonight. A few showers and thunderstorms will develop over inland areas this afternoon and over the South tonight while being isolated elsewhere.

High temperatures are 90 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 97 degrees inland and 86 degrees in the hills. There is a heat warning asking inland residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities as much as possible. Tonight temperatures will be 82 degrees along the coast, 76 degrees inland and 70 in the hills.

Winds are east to southeast at 10 to 20 knots and sea conditions are moderate.

Tides are low at 9:06 AM and 10:46 PM and high at 3:04 PM. The sun sets at six nineteen this evening and rises at five-nineteen AM Thursday morning.

In the extended outlook, there will be showers and thunderstorms mostly over the South on Thursday, increasing on Thursday night with the possibility of flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
