National Hurricane Center monitoring disturbance near Bay of Campeche

Posted: Monday, June 14, 2021. 9:29 am CST.

By Zoila Palma:  The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a disturbance associated with a broad area of low pressure.

This disturbance will bring showers and thunderstorms over the Bay of Campeche

Gradual development of this disturbance is possible during the next couple of days while it meanders near the coast of Mexico.

A tropical depression could form late in the week when the system moves northward into the central Gulf of Mexico.

The NHC says that heavy rainfall is possible over portions of Central America and southern  Mexico during the next several days.

The NHC is also monitoring a well-defined low-pressure system located about 90 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. This system is acquiring more tropical characteristics.

NHC notes that a depression or tropical storm is likely to form later today or tonight.
